December 8th, 2009. The Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (www.cufla.ca) is pleased to announce student-athlete selections for the 2009 All Star teams.Six players hail from Peterborough, Ontario and five call Oakville, Ontario home. Two players are from the United States, McMaster’s Carter Williams (Scottsdale, Arizona) and McGill’s Jake Winn (Falmouth, Maine). Eleven of CUFLA’s twelve teams are represented.
West Division
CUFLA’s 2008 champion, The University of Guelph, led all teams with a record six All Canadians including NLL player Jon Harnett of the Boston Blazers. Although Guelph’s playoff run was ended by CUFLA’s national runner-up McMaster University in 2009, Guelph’s strong defensive corps earned two of the defense awards (Jon Harnett, Mike Gillan) and strength at midfield (Paul Ryan, Brad Galante, Scott Fitchett) were recognized in the annual coaches’ poll. All Canadians do not appear to be the key to success in CUFLA as the undefeated Brock Badgers had only 2 players selected (NLL players Mike MacLeod of the Rochester Knighthawks, Dustin Dunn of the Buffalo Bandits) while runner-up McMaster had only 1 player selected; rookie Carter Williams.
